Digital Paintings

CYBORG PREDATOR

Original concept. Inspired by the alien in Predator and  the Elites in Halo. Wanted to depict a ravenous beast of some sort that is tamed with technology.

Step-wise painting process

1. Started with quick sketch and value pass.
2. Corrected shapes for better readability and design. Also changed perspective. He is looking over his shoulder now.
3. Applied colours and re-rendered some areas - but didn't like the direction it was going.
4. Reworked the design.

5. More rendering. Applied some textures to add some grit.
6.  Added final details.

BELLY HOG-BOT
Original concept. Set out to create a 'silly' robot and inspired by Baymax from Big Hero 6. Wanted to stylize it to look like a boss from the world of MapleStory. Referenced MapleStory illustrations to achieve the same feel.
Step-wise painting process
1. Started with quick sketch
2. Skipped value and went straight to colours. Quick render of form and some shadows
3. Increased the contrast and adjusted colours. At this point, it looked too much like baymax. Realized the eyes looked like nostrils. Changed concept into an armored big.
4. Added texture and more rendering
5. Added final details.

DEMONIC MERCENARY
Original concept. Value study. Set out to make a demonic figure. Inspired by Japanese culture and the demonic antlered figure from the Hannibal TV Series. Referenced Oni Mask, Tetsubo, and Japanese robes. Rendered in black and white values. Applied colour after.
FACELESS ANDROID
Original concept. This was done as a study in an hour and a half. Black and white render first. Colour applied after. Studying mech/robot design and experimentation with shapes.

  STILL LIFE
1 hour timed still life painting of an apple, two oranges and a pear.

Sketches

NINJA MECH ARMOR
Original Concept. Inspired by samurai armor and Barry the Chopper from FullMetal Alchemist TV Series.

Battle Suit Armor Designs
Different iterations of the same idea. Inspired by Firebats and Marines from StarCraft .
